Brewing Ideas
The humble cup of tea is something of a British institution.
Be it the elixir that maintains sanity in the office; the punctuation mark at break time or a commiseration cuppa, there’s little that the wonder-brew can’t do.
Now, this soothing hot liquid has provided the inspiration for a new illustration exhibition opening this week, Brewing Ideas.
Illustrators Juliet Thomas and Jhinuk Sarkar will be showing new work including paintings, screen prints & drawings and collage.
Thomas’ work is loosely based on the goings on in the Crouch End area she calls home; while Sarkar, who lives in Walthamstow, has looked to food for inspiration.
In something of a Halloween antidote, it’s an unashamedly twee exhibition. Except, perhaps, the Proof in the Pudding piece by Sarkar, showing a pistol hidden in what appears to be a jelly.
There’s also a rather surreal image, also by Sarkar, showing some little red dogs trapped in a salt shaker.
Thomas takes a more traditional approach with some sweet line drawings of buildings in Crouch End, and a very happy little chappy taking a jaunt on a bicycle.
All prints are for sale, priced at a reasonable £15 – £55.
Brewing Ideas runs from 1 November – 1 December at The Haberdashery, 22 Middle Lane, Crouch End, London, N8
