Giacomo Favilla’s Anonymous
American photographer Jock Sturges once quipped that ‘We live in an age where anonymity is growing in magnitude like a bomb going off.’
Another issue often described in such dramatic terms is the environment – and Italian photographer Giacomo Favilla has seamlessly married the two concerns for his forthcoming show at east London’s Book Club, Anonymous.
Favilla’s interest in environmental issues has been sparked by his recent move from a remote village by the sea to middle of polluted Milan, and the exhibition looks at how people choose to ‘blind’ themselves to how we’re playing a part in pollution.
The artist has created a series of photographic portraits, depicting each subject sporting a rather fetching pair of unusual, impervious spectacles.
These accessories were created in collaboration with designer Rossella Bessi from objects we’d usually treat as rubbish – old food, elastic bands, fuses and other debris.
Proving the old adage that one man’s junk really can be another man’s treasure, we’re rather taken with these cute pasta bow shades:
And these snazzy, and possibly quite useful, tape-measure specs:
