Merry Anti-Christmas
News broke this week that Christmas trees might be affected by a deadly virus: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-2039096
Not in the spirit of the season perhaps, but definitely in the spirit of Black Xmas – a new exhibition curated by Gaye Black, otherwise known as Gaye Advert – female punk star of The Adverts, and now an artist.
According to a spokesman at the Signal Gallery which will host the exhibition ‘her interest moved away from punk to black metal,’ and clearly she was taken with the subtle death/horror leitmotif.
He also tells us that ‘she’s quite anti-Christmas; she’ll have a home-made pizza on Christmas day.’ Rebel.
Black who seems to literally dabble in the dark arts, has called upon a broad base of artists including street artists and a ‘renegade potter/mosaic’ specialist, which according to the spokesman have been instructed to ‘not have a good time’ but also ‘to go for it.’
A line was drawn though. ‘No serial killers or paedophiles’ he says. Still, they really went to town. If a creeping Yuletide of malevolence, striking down reindeer, stifling Tiny Tim and killing Santa stone dead is your idea of fun you’ll find more details here.
Black Xmas is showing at the Signal Gallery, 32 Paul Street, London, EC2 from 30 November – 21 December
