Stuart Semple designs limited edition Officers and Gary Numan record
Artist Stuart Semple has designed the art-work and packaging of Petals, a collaborative charity single by Officers and Gary Numan.
Semple, who is the creative director of the band Officers, has designed and made 100 limited edition records which will be sold by the band as they tour with Numan in aid of the charity Campaign Against Living Miserably.
When Officers create a demo for a new track, they send it to Semple-who creates an aesthetic and a way to present it.
Previous forays into this artistic synesthesia have led Semple to create a ‘listening shed’ in record shop Rough Trade for Officers’ On The Twelve Thrones album launch.
Inside was an ‘encyclopedia’ of linocut and screen printed art-work, correspondence between band members and other ephemera, capturing the mood of the album.
For the Petals single Semple has done everything by hand, even hand stamping the CDs and signing the cover art, before bundling everything up into something that resembles a condom wrapper.
Each pack contains three different versions of the track: the original, plus two remixes.
A QR code will be attached to the back of each pack, sending people to CALM’s just giving page.
Anyone wanting to get hold of the free records needs to go see Numan on tour, supported by Officers.
