The Peace Project
Built by peace campaigner Maria Gallastegui in 2009, until recently the Peace Plinths stood in central London’s Parliament Square, exhibiting political artworks from the likes of Alison Jackson, Ben Eine and Billy Childish.
They were removed in the summer for the Olympics, with one, nicknamed Number 10, travelling to Los Angeles, and the other, the Tardis, apparently going into police custody.
Now they are being reunited as part of Art Below’s Peace Project exhibition, which is being held in London’s Gallery Different, where they will be displayed alongside works by Jackson, Eine, special effects artist Schoony and others.
Proceeds from the exhibition will go to the Halabja Community Playground Project in northern Iraq.
In addition, selected works from the show will be selected for Art Below’s Billboard exhibition, which is being held at Regent’s Park Tube Station throughout October.
This will feature a mocked-up photo of President Obama and Republican candidate Mitt Romney in a boxing match, created by Jackson.
The Peace Project is at Gallery Different, 14 Percy Street, London W1, from 12-19 October, while the billboard exhibition will be at Regent’s Park Tube Station throughout October.
