To The Point
Milton Glaser, Barber Osgerby and Nicolas Roope are among an all-star cast of speakers for the debut Point Conference, which comes to London in May next year.
Also speaking will be Andy Altmann, founder of Why Not Associates , and Gordon Young, who worked with Altmann on the brilliant Designs of the Year-nominated Blackpool Comedy Carpet; alongside Lucienne Roberts, founder of Sans+Baum and LucienneRoberts.
Organised by some of those responsible for the Typo conferences, Point will celebrate ‘excellence in design and its influence on contemporary culture and society’, according to founders Georgia Fendley, Robin Richmond and Tim Fendley.
Taking Authenticity as its theme, the conference will feature 40 lectures, screenings and performances exploring topics as design for society, investing in design and ‘brave design that has the power to change the rules’.
Aiming to remain strictly impartial, any funds made from the not-for-profit initiative will be re-invested into Point’s future events, publications and design initiatives.
‘The motivation behind the event is to put something back into the industry and to spread the word about the value and power of design’, says Point Conference director Tim Fendley. ‘We’ll explore design’s potential making these issues more widely recognised and understood by designers and clients alike.’
The conference will be chaired and moderated by a panel including Creative Review editor Patrick Burgoyne, designer Matt Judge, writer and strategist Patrick Baglee and Wallpaper editor-at-large Henrietta Thompson.
Point will take place on 2 and 3 May 2013 at the Institute of Education, 20 Bedford Way, London WC1H. For more information visit www.pointconference.com
