Land Design Studio creates Gardens by the Bay experience
Land Design Studio has created the experiential design for 54ha Gardens by the Bay attraction in Singapore.
Land was part of a UK-based consortium that created the Gardens. Led by landscape architect Grant Associates, the team also included architect Wilkinson Eyre, engineers Atelier One and Atelier Ten, and Thomas Matthews, which worked on branding.
Operated by National Parks Singapore, the Gardens comprises attractions such as the Flower Dome, Cloud Forest, and Climate Change Gallery.
Land, which has worked on the project since the consortium’s appointment six years ago, created graphics for the gardens, as well as supergraphics and interactives in the Flower Dome, and ‘The Five-Degree Story’, an interactive installation outlining what would happen if the Earth’s temperature rose by 5°C.
The consultancy has also created a 3D installation explaining all the technologies that have gone into the design and build of the park.
Peter Higgins, creative director at Land, says installations took their cues from the surrounding environment, with crystalline structures in the Crystal Mountain for example.
He says the consultancy aimed to use a ‘strong, simple’ graphic and design language to appeal to a diverse and multilingual audience.
