Magpie Studio works on poetry hoardings at Crossrail site

Magpie Studio has worked with All Change artists Sarah Butler and Yemisi Blake to create a 7m artwork based on poetic expressions for the Crossrail worksite in London’s Farringdon.

The work has been created to support the Word 2012 Festival and will provide a physical backdrop for poetry to be recited on Monday evening, from, literally, a soap box, branded for the event.

The poetic artworks are a response to the question ‘Where are you going?’ which was inspired by conversations with local residents.

Magpie Studio creative partner Jamie Ellul says, ‘Taking a theme of travel-related print ephemera, the hoarding is designed to feel almost like a design guidelines document.’

A ‘clinical approach’ to the graphics offsets them with ‘the warmth and personality of the poetry’ says Elull.

These graphics have also been applied to postcards, T-shirts, and giant train tickets for members of the public to write on and display.

Magpie Studio rebranded community art organisation All Change in 2010.

The recital event takes place on 28 May from 5pm at the Crossrail hoardings on Cowcross Street, London EC1.
