Manchester Design Symposium returns
The Manchester Design Symposium is set to return next month for its second outing, and although the organisers haven’t yet released the full line up, they’ve revealed to Design Week that among the speakers will be Adrian Shaughnessy and Morag Myerscough.
Three more speakers are set to be named in the coming weeks, with the organisers promising ‘a massive name’ will be among them.
This year’s event will, according to the organisers, ‘explore the complex relationship between design and the economy, bringing into question whether the UK’s place at the top table of world design is under threat’.
It will be chaired by Professor David Crow, dean of the Faculty of Art and Design at Manchester Metropolitan University.
The inaugural Manchester Design Symposium was held last year, organised by promotional body Design Initiative and funded by the Design Council and Manchester City Council.
More than 300 attendees turned out to see last year’s speakers who included Jonathan Barnbrook, illustrator Si Scott and Studio Dumbar partner Tom Dorresteijn.
This year’s Manchester Design Symposium will be held on 21 March at the Great Hall at Manchester Town Hall, Albert Square, Manchester M60 2LA. Tickets will be on sale from 17 March at www.manchesterdesignsymposium.com
