Summer of Celebration will take place across 70 National Trust properties during the summer, with 14 properties hosting tea parties and a screening of the Wallace & Gromit mini animation, Jubilee Bunt-a-thon, over the Jubilee weekend.

Marc & Anna was appointed to the project about three months ago without a pitch, having worked with the National Trust on previous projects.

It designed a typographic marque, bunting, flags, a crown, activity sheets, stickers and other collateral to be used across the events. The animation, created by Aardman, features the bunting colour scheme designed by Marc & Anna.

The designs and typographic marque were inspired by patterns and colours from the 1950s, and created using the National Trust brand guidelines, creating a ‘retro/vintage feel’, according to the consultancy, while remaining in-keeping with the National Trust brand guidelines.

Marc Atkinson, partner at Marc & Anna, says, ‘They were quite specific with what they wanted – they were looking for bunting and had thoughts on hats and flags and wanted a look for it that was within their guidelines.

‘We felt a vintage feel would be right so we researched into patterns and colours to come up wit the colour scheme. We looked at typography and things like magazines from the 1950s. Italics and a small “of” just felt right.’
