Marvel and Lucas Film illustrator Tommy Lee Edwards and Shaun of the Dead director Edgar Wright have created an online animated story  controlled by crowd-sourcing.

It’s all a bit hush-hush at the moment but a teaser is already circulating, which you can have a look at here:

The concept is a bit like those Chose Your Own Adventure books of yore, where rolling a dice determines multiple endings. But a bit better.

For now we know that the fate of ‘noir-inspired’ scribe Brandon Generator, the title character, or ‘our caffeine-fuelled anti-hero’ – will be decided by the audience, according to a spokesman for the project.

Four episodes are planned, each around two weeks apart, with audience participation encouraged through the website and via voicemail.

The spokesman for Brandon Generator reveals that the audience will be able to ‘provide new characters’ and ‘choose which direction the plot takes.’

The Mighty Boosh and Nathan Barley star Julian Barratt will narrate the story and music comes from Unloved, a new David Holmes project. Even the music will be controlled by the viewer.

Been done (sort of)! Sylvester McCoy presented a Children’s BBC TV show similar to this in 1988, called ‘What’s Your Story?’, where kids rang in with ideas for the next episode that were then cobbled together into a script, rehearsed, recorded and broadcast. Except that they managed a new episode within 24 hours, not 2 weeks!
