New designs for Heal’s
Retailer Heal’s has launched its first own-brand fabric collection since the 1970s, and worked with a host of established and up-and-coming designers, including Zandra Rhodes and Malika Favre.
Rhodes has updated her Top Brass 2 pattern – which returns in a pink colourway. The pattern was originally released in 1963, when she was studying at the Royal College of Art.
Cressida Bell’s Trees pattern is influenced by 1930s and 1940s illustrators, such as Eric Ravilious and Edward Bawden.
Malika Favre has created the Peacock Flower design – using the form of a peacock as the basis for a colourful, abstract pattern. Favre was apparently inspired to create the design after seeing a peacock wandering around her hotel on a recent trip to the French Riviera.
Hvass & Hannibal’s design, meanwhile, is described by Heal’s as ‘distinctively Scandinavian’. It’s an illustrative depiction of a forest scene, in which the designers have deliberately avoided a geometric look, to avoid it being too uniform or grid-like.
The new fabrics are available in the Heal’s 1810 home accessory line – named after the year in which the company was founded. The range includes aprons, oven gloves, trays and notebooks.
