New WWF HQ to feature Jason Bruges Studio interactives

The WWF is working with Hopkins Architects on the centre, which hopes to achieve a BREEAM ‘outstanding’ rating for sustainable construction, and is currently being built in Woking.

Jason Bruges Studio is working on interactives in four enclosed themed 4x4m zones – fresh water, marine, forest and wildlife – which will present different environmental experiences and reflect core areas of the organisation’s work.

When the site opens in Autumn 2012 visitors will engage with the zones through sensory devices, which use light, sound, ambience and scent, and the four pods will be linked by the themes of climate change and how we use the world’s natural resources.

Jason Bruges Studio design manager Richard Roberts says smells of each environment will immerse visitors ‘and in some cases on screen-based interactive pieces animals and birds will appear to fly away.’

There will also be ‘shifting dappled light’ and within the fabric of the structures, ‘peep-holes’ through which visitors can ‘peer into magnified views of nests and burrows,’ says Roberts.

Further information on WWF campaigns will be available on touch-screen within the pods.

Jason Bruges Studio is also designing a ‘donor-recognition installation’ in the reception area of the building, which will see the names of benefactors displayed on the back wall.
