Build’s identity for Ukrainian TV channel PlusPlus
Build’s new branding for Ukrainian children’s TV channel PlusPlus is based around a ‘family’ of animated characters.

The family of characters
The consultancy worked with Ukraine-based illustrator Edik Katykhin, who created the family of characters, which can be used as a flexible, modular system by varying colours, shapes and expressions.

Build founder Michael C Place says, ‘The channel is very much about learning and is quite family-oriented, so we wanted to have a family of characters.

‘It was also important that we worked with an Eastern European illustrator to get that particular sensibility – it almost has the feel of pre-Iron Curtain cartoons.’

Build has created a system of on- and off-air guidelines around the character system, for example introducing different colours for use at different times.

The consultancy worked with animation studio Animade and sound design consultancy Sonica Studios to develop a series of teasers, identity and endboard animations.
Build was appointed directly to the work around 10 weeks ago by client Natasha Vashko following a recommendation, according to Place. PlusPlus is a new children’s channel from Ukrainian broadcaster 1Plus1 and launches this month.

Neat! Reminds me of those very old very "soviet" style design books you flick through. Nicely softened with the characters :-)
