d. Studio creates We Heart Massage branding

Consultancy d. Studio has created the branding for We Heart Massage, a massage service for adults and infants.

The consultancy was appointed to the project by the brand’s founder Mary Beattie in February, following a recommendation from a previous client. It created separate brands for the baby and adult arms of the business, uniting the two halves with a cohesive visual identity.

Wes Anson, d.Studio creative partner, says, ‘We were given pretty much a blank canvas. Because the business is in two separate parts, we had to choose a name that encompassed both.’

The branding will be used across all touchpoints including promotional materials, stationery and the website, which is also designed by D.Studio and is due to launch in about a month.

The brand marque uses hand images and animal silhouettes, with the ‘baby massage’ brand using a baby blue and white colour palette; while the adult arm uses pink and white.

Anson adds, ‘The concept was about being hands on, so it was a visual play on massage. We wanted to create something simple and iconic for We Heart Massage, and have a bit more fun with the We Heart Baby Massage. The colours are simply pastel colours so they’re quite soothing.’

The branding will launch over the next couple of weeks.

  • Does "we heart massage" mean that they do heart massages? That doesn't sound too "soothing"!

    Seriously though, using the word "heart" as a verb, when the heart symbol is clearly being used to denote the word "love", *really* grates.

    The brand name was immovable when it came to us, we worked best with the constraints and given the final solution we are happy with the name. After all, it's more than just a name and just a logo, the treatment and indeed the service will speak for itself.

    As for using a statement as a brand name, I rather like the spirit it can conjure. We did think the name of Massuer 'Mary Beattie' lended itself quite well to the service but we had to bear in mind the wishes of our client and in respect of the baby massage element we decided that emphasising 'Beattie' would not depict the right tone.
