The Design Council is working with the Arts and Humanities Research Council and communications consultancy the Madano Partnership, as well as the Economic and Social Research Council.
The organisations are publishing a scoping study, which aims to inform the research.
This scoping study suggests, among other points, that the research ought to take in the growing area of service design, which it says is currently ‘neglected’.
The research organisations are now entering the second stage of the research project, and will undertake further studies into the value and impact of design, looking particularly at service design.
Mat Hunter, chief design officer at the Design Council, says, ‘We have long argued that design can really add value and we’re confident that this research will highlight the benefits that engagement with design has for UK business and the resulting opportunities to thrive.’
