North rebrands Photographers’ Gallery
North has created a new identity for the Photographers’ Gallery, which is set to reopen in its new venue in London’s Soho later this month.
North was appointed to the branding work last year and worked with Jane Wentworth Associates, which has been developing the gallery’s brand strategy.
North also created the gallery’s previous typographic identity, which has been in use since 1996.
The Photographers’ Gallery says the new identity has been inspired in part by the building’s design, by Irish architect O’Donnell & Tuomey. It says the new identity will ‘boldly communicate the gallery’s vision both within the building and beyond’.
The gallery design features large windows designed to frame views in to the gallery spaces, while black rendered elevations that wrap the new extension are cut away to reveal the original brick warehouse structure.
The new identity will be used on marketing materials and signage throughout the new gallery space, which opens on Ramillies Street on 19 May.
