Olympic Bus-tops

Bus-tops, which launched at the start of the year, is a project to bring digital art to the tops of 30 bus-stops dotted around London. Over the year, a wide range of works have been featured – with contributors from professional artists to schoolchildren.

All the works are hosted on red-and-black LED screens.

The remaining projects, which will run throughout September, will attempt to examine the Olympic legacy, the merits of the Olympic and Paralympic Games, and London’s handover to Rio 2016.

One project feeds into the International Olympic Committee’s Olympic Truce initiative, which harks back to the Olympic truces of Ancient Greece and aims to encourage young people to use sport and culture to promote peace.

For its Olympic Truce contribution, Bus-tops has invited students at Middlesex University to create their own truce-related artworks.

Meanwhile the Unreal project sees the Dean Rodney Singers – led by autistic artist Dean Rodney – work in video art and music to ‘bring Dean’s fantasy world of creatures and superheroes, together with their parallel universes, to life.’

Dean Rodney has worked with 72 band members from across the world to create a series of Bus-top artworks that aim to celebrate the Paralympics.

And in the third project, students from the BeitYaacov School in Brazil have also created a series of works, highlighting London’s handover to Rio for the 2016 Games.
