Paul Catherall 2012 Linocuts

Illustrator and printmaker Paul Catherall is exhibiting a retrospective of his linocut work produced this year.

This includes his latest piece Orbit Grey, based on Anish Kapoor’s Olympic Park sculpture.

Most of the work on display has been produced for commercial clients, including Portcullis House for the House of Commons Jubilee Commission and an image of The Shard, created as a cover image for Wallpaper* magazine.

A cityscape has been created for Google showing a panoramic perspective from the windows of its new London HQ, and a similar project for city law firm Pinsent Masons reveals another panorama, created as part of his tenure as Pinsent Masons’ artist in residence.

Oxo Red

Possibly best known for his work as one of London Transport’s poster designers, Catherall’s work is characterised by a colourful take on modernist architecture, often of buildings which polarise opinion, like the Elephant & Castle shopping Centre and The Shard.

All of his works are completed using a relief process which may take several weeks to complete.
