Penguin has published new editions of a series of books by author Nancy Mitford, which have cover design inspired by paintings of geometric patterns.

The eight novels all feature a different colourful front and back cover design, which are based on patterns created by New York-based artist Lourdes Sanchez.

Sanchez was commissioned by Penguin Random House’s in-house design team to design the patterns. Penguin then transferred them to printed book covers.

Patterns include a mosaic effect, diagonal stripes, rectangular stripes, hexagons, teardrops and diamond shapes.

The novel series includes Wigs on the Green (1936), The Pursuit of Love (1945), Love in a Cold Climate (1949), The Blessing (1951) and Don’t Tell Alfred (1960).

The books have been reissued to mark the 70th anniversary of the first publication of The Pursuit of Love.
