Portland finishes India airport task

Portland Design has completed the branding and commercial planning strategy for the duty-free and retail environment at Hyderabad Airport in India.

Due to open next year, the 2500m2 retail space will be run by The Nuance Group, which appointed Portland last year to assist with its tender for the plot.

The branding takes its cues from the symbolism of mandala, which holds true to a circular model of the cosmos, referencing spirit, vitality and energy.

Portland head of environmental graphics Lara Farnham explains, ‘We have created a mandala that represents the universe of Hyderabad and communicates the essence of life’s connections. Science, genetics, music and dance are combined with retail merchandise iconography to create the brand essence of the airport.

‘Under this, we have then created a series of retail mandalas for each of the broad shopping categories.’
