Scottish Parliament aims to open up with exhibition refurb

The Scottish Parliament is looking to update its permanent exhibition to help it better engage with visitors and open up the parliamentary process.

The Parliament’s corporate body is seeking a design team to rework the exhibition at Holyrood in Edinburgh.

An exhibition about the Scottish Parliament has been on show since 2004, with updates in 2009 and 2013. The exhibition explains the work of the Parliament and its members and is open to the 320,000 visitors who come to Parliament each year.

Now the Parliament is seeking a design team to update the exhibition with the aim of helping it better engage with visitors and enhancing opportunities to learn about its work.

It says it is also looking to “exploit digital engagement trends” and “involve more people from a broader range of communities in the work of committees”.

Although the exhibition will be largely contained in Holyrood’s main hall, the commissioners say there is scope to also use public tour routes.

The Scottish Parliamentary Corporate Body has issued a tender for an exhibition design consultancy to work on the project.
