Send to Print / Print to Send 3D Printing Exhibition

Coming up with a prototype quickly has never been easier. New technologies are making it faster than ever to print a product, tweak it and re-print it.

The focus of a forthcoming exhibition at London’s Aram Gallery is 3D printing, a process designers across all disciplines are increasingly making use of.

3D printing, also known as rapid-prototyping, is the process of printing three dimensional objects using a specifically designed printer. Most commonly, polyamide or nylon is layered up to create a 3D form based on a computer drawn image.

Surprisingly, 3D printing is bit of a veteran, having been around since the 1980s. Some the first companies to experiment with this new technology were Formula One racing teams who used 3D printing techniques to create prototypes of the ever-evolving design of race cars.
