The Kurt Cobain sticker book

Undoubtedly more than a few of us have passed through something of a hoodie-shrouded, eyeliner-smothered Nirvana stage. But as the people of arts label Belly Kids point out, ‘Some dumbos grew out of the obsession but the smart ones amongst us still carry on.’

And so, from the people who brought us the wonderful Thrill Murray colouring book arrives the Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain-inspired Sticker Book.

As well as illustrations of the man himself, the book also features pictures of bands and artists that inspired Cobain, such as The Pixies, Lead Belly and Daniel Johnston, as well as imagery of infamous ex-wife Courtney Love and former Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl.

‘I’d say my love of records started with Nirvana. At a young age they were this introduction to a new world of awesome, loud music which sounded so fresh’, says Belly Kids founder Michael Coley says. ‘It was a bonus my Mum hated it so much.’

The book features 72 stickers and printed illustrations designed by 13 artists from around the world – none of whom were given a specific brief other than to be inspired by Cobain.

Coley says, ‘Much the same as our Bill Murray Colouring Book, I had this idea come into my head which could be good, could be way too dorky. So I put the idea out to friends, family, strangers and the general reaction was positive.

‘So I thought, hey, lets do this and as I say, there are so many of us out there who appreciate Kurt and the gang, it wasn’t hard getting people on board.’

Among the illustrators featured are Patrick Schmidt, Murray Somerville and Chris Golden.

Here at Design Week we’re huge fans of the track Anerusym, while Belly Kids’ favourite is Very Ape, for the line ‘If you ever need anything please don’t hesitate to ask someone else
first’, says Coley.

Belly Kids will soon be announcing an exhibiton to mark the launch of the sticker book, which comes out on 29 October. For more information visit www.bellykids.co.uk/
