The Team and Cisco have developed two virtual fashion mirrors for retailer John Lewis’ flagship store on Oxford Street.

Cameras within the mirror unit capture a shopper’s body dimensions and position before superimposing clothing onto the image of the shopper.

Cisco created a technical prototype of the mirror and turned to The Team to help it hone the interface and the user experience. The innovation was then pitched to John Lewis, which has taken it on.

Dave Dunlop, creative director of The Team, says he worked with Cisco on a technical prototype to establish interaction principles before simplifying the user experience and responded to user testing to make the design more intuitive.

‘We crafted and positioned each element of the interface to make every interaction as effortless as possible without losing the spirit of The John Lewis shopping experience,’ says Dunlop.

John Lewis says the design will help shoppers understand styles and colours that work best for them ‘in an efficient yet experiential way.’

Customers will have access to 500 womenswear garments and can chose to have the virtual images emailed to them or shared through social networks where John Lewis says they can ‘receive feedback’ before purchase.

The StyleMe mirrors will be trialed on the first floor of John Lewis Oxford Street from today for six weeks and if successful will become a permanent fixture in the retailer’s flexible department store which opens this autumn.
