This year’s event, to be held at The London Transport Museum, kicks off by examining how designers and the wider tourist attractions business can be savvy in the face of recession and turn it to their advantage. The session is chaired by architect LM Associates director Lesley Morisetti, who will be discussing the impact of the last recession of the attractions business – and how the current one is shaping developments and attractions.

Later on in the morning, a session entitled The ‘Virtuous Circle’ will be chaired by project management and design consultancy Visual Acuity’ management director  Blair Parkin. Parkin and the other speakers will be looking at exhibition design and how an attraction’s content can be shaped to the needs of the audience, using information gathered from repeat visitors.

The ‘virtuous circle’ refers to how attractions can harness technology to seamlessly connect elements within the attraction, and in turn communicate them to the visitors in new ways, while also improving the efficacy of the operation and the experience as a whole. Case studies will include the new Miami Science Museum and the California Academy of Sciences.

The post-lunch session will focus on London-based and global opportunities in exhibition and attraction design; while the afternoon gets to the nitty gritty with sessions on creative lighting, LED walls and unusual projection surfaces. The final talk will be hosted by Alan Wilkinson, business development manager of audio-visual consultancy Electrosonic, who will discuss how to scale-down these elements for use in individual museum exhibits, product launches and other smaller applications.

TileZone takes place on 21 March at the London Transport Museum, Covent Garden Piazza, London WC2E. For more information visit http://www.tileweb.org/

This was a great event, good networking opportunities and excellent presentations. Electrosonic’s very own Robert Simpson, Founder of Electrosonic ended the event with an interesting talk on ‘Unusual Projection Surfaces’. One of the impressive projects he spoke about was the ‘Augmented Reality: Obscura Digital, “Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque Projections” http://www.wired.com/beyond_the_beyond/2012/01/augmented-reality-obscura-digital-sheikh-zayed-grand-mosque-projections/.

We look forward to the July Event
