Event: Design Manchester
What: The Design Manchester event returns for its third edition, with talks from consultancy IDEO, former Government Digital Service head of design Ben Terrett and University of the Arts London professor Fred Deakin. This year’s event is built around the theme of “Know How” and as well as design will also cover disciplines including film and music.
When: 14-21 October.

Festival: The Big Draw
What: The international Big Draw event claims to be the world’s largest drawing festival. Last year it included events across 26 countries attended by nearly half a million people. UK events this year include the “Drawing the World” project at London’s King’s Cross and the Manchester Museum Sketchcrawl.
When: Throughout October.

Event: Graphic Design Scotland
What: Launched in 2014, Graphic Design Scotland is back for its second edition, bringing a series of workshops, talks, events and exhibitions to Glasgow. Speakers this year include Kate Moross, Colophon and HelloMe. And there will be workshops and a live two-day brief.
When: 19-25 October

Festival: Northern Design Festival
What: Northern design organisation Design Event is marking its tenth anniversary with a festival at Assembly House in Newcastle. The festival will showcase work from Deadgood NODE and David Irwin. There will also be a talks programme featuring the likes of Pentagram partner William Russell and illustrator Chris Haughton.
When: 21-25 October.

Exhibition: The World of Charles and Ray Eames
What: A new exhibition at the Barbican will survey the careers of Charles and Ray Eames and the designs created by their Eames Office. The extensive exhibition will present the world of Charles and Ray Eames through objects and projects produced during their lifetime – including film, multi-channel slideshows, photography, furniture, products, drawings, sculpture, painting, graphic design, models, props, and exhibition and installation artefacts.
When: 21 October 2015-14 February 2016.
