Warp’s warped music videos

By commissioning directors such as Jarvis Cocker and Chris Cunningham, cult Sheffield record label Warp has ensured that its music video output has always been as interesting as its audio releases.

So much so, that Bug, the BFI Southbank’s music video event, presented by Adam Buxton, is curating a special edition devoted entirely to Warp releases.

Expect to see Cunningham’s super-disturbing vids for Aphex Twin’s Come to Daddy and Windowlicker, each featuring creepy Aphex Twin clones.

We’re also fans of Pleix’s video for Plaid’s Itsu, a super-freaky combination of sleazy sexuality and industrial pig farming…

You may also see early classics such as Sabres of Paradise’s Wilmot, which sees Andrew Weatherall leading a street jazz band, and the pure 90s of LFO’s LFO (which hasn’t aged brilliantly, to be fair…).

The event is part of the BFI’s Made in Britain: Warp Records at 10 season, which will feature screenings of Warp feature films, such as This is England and Tyrannosaur, as well as a live rescoring of Dead Man’s Shoes.

The Bug Warp special will be held on 12 April, visit whatson.bfi.org.uk for tickets. For more information on the BFI’s Warp season, visit whatson.bfi.org.uk.
