What we did

We have, as in previous years, based the listings for Design Week’s Creative Survey on the success UK consultancies have achieved in the top creative awards across a range of disciplines. Most of the awards schemes included in our trawl are UK-based, but increasingly UK groups are scoring in international prize schemes so these are also included.

A significant change this year is that we have embraced interaction design more fully. Previously, success for digital consultancies has been measured through their performance in the D&AD and Design Week Awards, but this year we have added two specialist schemes: the Bimas and the US-based Webbys into the mix.

As before, we have applied a points system that covers awards wins, commendations and other accolades - the details of which are published below. In the interest of fairness and accuracy, we have again drawn the data from the results given to us by the organisers of the various awards we cover, rather than asking consultancies to submit details of their awards tally.

The charts shown on the previous two pages comprise two separate listings. One covers the main UK prize schemes, into which we have added the Benchmarks Awards for the best in branding this year to join D&AD and the Design Week Awards. The other chart takes the total of all relevant award wins, from specialist prizes to regional selections, as well as the main multidisciplinary honours.

Both are open to consultancies and in-house design teams that have shown creative prowess through awards over the past 12 months.

We also rank consultancies according to their awards performance in particular disciplines. These range from print, packaging and corporate branding to product, interiors and interaction design. The top five client teams are ranked separately.
