Ideas for Breakfast
Early last year, Sir Terence Conran revealed that his breakfast of choice is orange juice, coffee and Havana cigar called Hoya de Monterrey.
But while few of us partake in such an unusual, and possibly nutritionally dubious start to the day, many of us could undoubtedly feel a little more inspired in the mornings.
A new series of ‘culture breakfasts’ could be just the antidote, serving up something a lot more intellectually satisfying than even a pop tart or cinnamon grahams could offer us – ideas.
The Ideas for Breakfast programme is kicking off next weekend with Digital Physical, hosted by digital consultancy Mint Digital, as the first in a six-part series of talks. Product designer Ben Redford will be showing two amazing new inventions, Olly and Polly (see above), which got us pretty excited when we first saw them doing the rounds on design blogs.
Little Olly is web-connected robot which lets out a scent of your choice every time you get an @ mention, tweet or retweet on twitter; while his partner in crime Polly turns Tweets into sweeties. As huge fans of sweets, nice smells and, of course, people mentioning us on Twitter, we’re understandably rather taken with the cute little pair.
The second of the monthly sessions sees sound artists and musician Mr Underwood host his Sonic Graffiti session, talking about his experiments in hacking and technology; while the Jotta-hosted November session, Future Materials, looks at the future of urban beekeeping.
The breakfasts will be held at W London hotel, 10 Wardour Street, Leicester Square, London W1D
