What does applied art really mean? That’s the question posed by exhibition Metadomestic, which examines the role of craft and design in the domestic setting.
Should it be decorative? Functional? Intellectual? Contributors including Martino Gamper, Studio Makkink & Bey and Dunne & Raby attempt to provide an answer.
The show, apparently inspired by a Georges Perec story, is curated by art historian Mònica Gaspar and features artists from across Europe.
After showing at the Landsgalerie Linz in Austria, the exhibition is travelling to Mima in Middlesbrough for its only UK date.
Metadomestic: Contemporary Design & Craft, is at Mima, Centre Square, Middlesbrough TS1, from 20 July-23 November.
