YouTube offices feature a mock-up of Del Boy’s living room
Penson has designed YouTube’s London office in the style of a film set, and included a break-out space replicating TV character Del Boy’s living room.
The Only Fools and Horses character’s flat has been recreated on the YouTube floor of the Central St Giles House development in London’s Covent Garden.
Google which occupies 50,000m2 over several floors in the same building, appointed Penson to redesign its offices in May.
Penson took the YouTube brief at the same time and it has now delivered a design which comprises ‘a back of stage look with some cool detailing and a film-set look and feel,’ according to Penson interior designer Lucy Goddard.
A YouTube Walk of Fame features YouTube content selected by the company and broadcast on a series of screens integrated into an oversized sofa and padded walls.
Other areas include a cinema room with velvet curtains and padded seats and The Creator Space, a studio which Goddard says will host YouTube film-makers when they get a certain number of hits.
A green room, edit suites, and two large acoustic filming spaces have been integrated into The Creator Space.
‘They can come in use the studio – and the idea is – make even better YouTube films,’ says Goddard.
Penson’s trademark Air-Lock doors link the office’s look with the Google spaces. Other features include sound proof-recording studios, ‘squishy’ sunken rugs, a silver glitter-clad reception to ‘dazzle external visitors’, and Flight Pods tucked into walls for smaller meeting spaces, according to Penson.
