Each decorated by a different artist or celebrity, the life-size statues will be placed on the streets of central London in June 2010 to raise awareness for elephant charity Elephant Family.
Lulu Guinness, Quentin Blake and Rosie Brooks are among the artists involved in the Elephant Parade project.
Children’s book illustrator Brooks (pictured) is currently working on her elephant in a studio in a shopping centre in Elephant and Castle, specifically set up for six of the artists to finish their designs.
Brooks says, ‘I’m painting lots and lots of children all over mine, it’s going to be all different colours. I think it’s a really lovely project. In the studio we’re all helping each other out, it’s really inspiring.’
Elephant Parade is looking for eight more artists to complete the project. Applicants should e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org.
