Beatbox and Sun

Soapbox & Sons saw out the last days of summer with its Beatbox and Sun event, which brought together artists, illustrators and designers with beatboxers for a roof-top party.

The event was organised by Jenny Theolin’, creative director of collaborative consultancy Soapbox & Sons, and saw her collaborate with YouTube channel Behind The Beats, which brought in some of the best beat boxers in the country and a DMC champion DJ.

The designer-doodler side of the event saw the likes of Ben The Illustrator, Marina Willer, Ben Steers, Lizzie Mary Cullen, Tom Muller, joined by new talent like Jessica Erikson and Paper Planes.

Proceeds from print sales went to the McGuire Programme, a not for profit organisation which helps people with stammering problems.

Theolin says, ‘We also asked them to pick a summery song lyric and bring in a communication theme.’

Stuart Watson and Marina Willer for example chose to communicate the Arctic Monkeys lyric When The Sun Goes Down in Morse code, which almost reads with stammering effect, ‘as it’s very stop-start’ says Theolin.
