Carmody Groarke works on new architecture exhibition space

Architect Carmody Groarke is creating a new permanent gallery space at the Royal Institute of British Architects in London.

The practice is set to create a new exhibition on the ground floor of the RIBA exhibition, in an area leading off the lobby in what is currently office space.

Under environmentally managed conditions, this new space will enable the RIBA to display its collection of drawings and photographs.

RIBA chief executive Harry Rich says, ‘I am particularly pleased that by opening up 66 Portland Place we can follow through on my commitment to engage many more people in the past, present and future of architecture.’

The new gallery space is set to open in the summer.

Carmody Groake was selected from a five-strong shortlist following a series of competitive interviews.
