Collect works go to museums

The institutions were selected to choose works from the Crafts Council’s Collect show, which takes place at London’s Saatchi Gallery. The museums and galleries were picked from a shortlist of 18, on the strength of their collection policies and ambitions to grow their collections.

Curators from Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery selected an enamel vessel created by Japanese designer-maker Naoki Takeyama, as did Plymouth City Museum & Art Gallery who chose Takeyama’s work Hakutai (A Thousand Years).

The National Museum Wales selected a nickel silver-and-bronze sculpture by Japanese maker Takahiro Yede and The Royal Albert Memorial Museum in Exeter chose Danish maker Steffen Dam’s hand-blown decaying flora.

Two vessels, called Kangaroo and Emu, by Australian ceramicist Robin Best, were chosen by Norwich Castle Museum & Art Gallery.

Curators at Leeds Museums & Galleries selected a piece by British maker Michael Eden, inspired by information available on the internet.

Middlesbrough Institute of Modern Art chose a brooch by Italian goldsmith Stefano Marchetti and Nottingham Castle Museum & Art Gallery selected another brooch by Italian jeweller Giovanni Corvaja.
