Conran launches new digital consultancy led by Daljit Singh

The Conran empire has moved into interaction design with the launch this week of new consultancy Conran Singh, headed by Digit co-founder Daljit Singh.

Singh (pictured) is executive creative director and ’a significant minority stakeholder’ of Conran Singh, says Roger Mavity, chief executive of Conran Holdings, which owns Conran Singh. Singh sits on the management board of Conran Holdings.

He will work with Conran businesses like Studio Conran and Conran & Partners to develop digital opportunities for existing clients and will also bring in his own projects.

’I will bring in my experience of the interactive world and look at opportunities to help brands,’ says Singh.

He is developing a three-year business plan for Conran Singh with the Conran Holdings management board. He expects to add one or two middleweight or senior people to the team by the end of 2010, but is not making immediate appointments.

’I’ve got this great opportunity and am in an environment where rigour of thought is important. I need to get my head round that first,’ Singh says.

Singh, who left Digit in March, says meeting Terence Conran helped him decide to take the job. ’His philosophy and his beliefs are what nailed it,’ he says. He also relishes ’coming back into a world with a design lens on things’, he adds, having been affiliated with ad agency JWT at Digit as part of the WPP stable.

’There is an incredible amount to play with [within Conran Holdings],’ Singh says. ’Where else can you find an organisation that has hotels, retail, product and so on? It’s a very rich environment.’

Mavity says, ’We have long wanted Conran to be a world-class player on the Web, but we had to find the right man to lead the charge. I am certain that marrying [Singh’s] talent to the Conran graphic charisma is the start of a brilliantly successful new venture.’
