CSD changes bylaws in bid to set up register

The changes to the CSD bylaws, which were approved by the organisation’s annual general meeting at the end of last year, have now been given the all-clear by the Privy Council.

The bylaw changes include an update of the CSD’s definition of a designer and the introduction of a new category of membership – Associate Membership, which replaces the old Graduate Membership.

The CSD has also reduced the size of its council from 48 to 13 and opened up voting procedures to electronic communications.

A CSD statement says, ‘With the design sector landscape changing so dramatically over the past year, these changes are well-timed – they allow us to move forward and deliver our objectives for the benefit of the profession and the public.’

The CSD says it is now embarking on the final stage of its aim to set up the register, by applying to the Privy Council to amend its royal charter – a move already approved by the organisation’s AGM.

An extraordinary general meeting will be held later in the year to examine further bylaw changes to support the alterations to the royal charter.
