It will be unveiled at the end of this week, with the official opening on 30 September.
The consultancy has been working on the project for about six months, and was invited to come up with ideas because of an ongoing relationship with Material Lab, which provides samples for Dalziel & Pow.
Dalziel & Pow associate director, graphics, Simon Parkes describes the brief as very collaborative and ’organic’. He says, ’We walked round the store and talked about what the problems were.
’It was quite a small area and quite constrained so we opened it up into a continuous peg board system round the perimeter of the store.’
As part of Material Lab’s overhaul, Dalziel & Pow has introduced a studio to the rear of the space that can be used by designers to put mood and sample boards together.
Parkes says, ’We created different areas – eco, trend, events – for the signage around the store. Material Lab wanted to get back to basics and open the space up to have a bit more clarity – letting the tiles do the talking, rather than too much visual noise going on behind them.’
Andrew Adams, marketing services manager for Material Lab owner H&R Johnson Tiles, says, ’The previous layout had been very successful,but it had been there for two or three years. We wanted to make it so that the materials can be shown easily and so that it was easy for specifiers to work in the area.’
