David Godber to leave Design Council
David Godber, deputy chief executive of the Design Council, is to leave the organisation in December.
It is understood that Godber’s departure is unrelated to the recent review of the Design Council and the Government’s decision to strip it of its status as a non-departmental Government body, which will see it become an independent charity.
Godber is understood to be taking up a role with a Denmark-based renewable energy company, which will start in January 2011. He will also continue to work for the Design Council in an advisory capacity.
David Kester, chief executive of the Design Council, says, ‘Thanks to David’s tremendous efforts we continue to open up new opportunities for design in areas such as dementia care and independent living for the elderly. I am delighted that his continued involvement will help nurture some of these important activities.’
The Design Council says the Design Challenge programmes that had been led by Godber will now be led by chief design officer Mat Hunter. Mentoring programmes such as Public Services by Design will continue to be led by Ellie Runcie.
