Design Museum launches initiative for schoolchildren

Sebastian Conran is to unveil plans for Design Ventura, an initiative run by the Design Museum to develop student creativity in a real-world context.

The three-year programme, which will be launched by Conran, Design Museum director Deyan Sudjic and project partner Deutsche Bank on 25 May, will see students respond to a brief set by Conran and learn how to pitch their ideas.

Around 600 children from London state schools will take part in a series of workshops at their schools and at the museum, run by professional designers and entrepreneurs. Conran will brief the students to create a product for the Design Museum shop and will head a panel of judges to choose one design to put into production.

Rose Design has created the identity (pictured) and publicity material for Design Ventura, as well as a pack for students and teachers. The consultancy was appointed at the end of 2009 following a credentials-led pitch.

Gary Martyniak, senior designer at Rose, says, ‘Our identity and marketing campaign deliberately use a design-led visual language aimed at standing out among all the other educational project information that schools and teachers will be receiving on a weekly basis.’
