Design Museum seeks exhibition designer for new home

The Design Museum is seeking an exhibition designer to work on an installation for its new home at the former Commonwealth Institute.

The semi-permanent installation will display the museum’s collection when it moves to the west London building in 2013.

The museum says the designer will be required to work with audiovisual displays, multimedia, exhibition cases and specialist lighting, while operating in a Grade II*-listed building alongside an appointed architect.

Architects David Chipperfield, Haworth Tompkins, Caruso St John, Stanton Williams, John Pawson, Tony Fretton and Dutch practice Claus En Kaan have been shortlisted to convert the building into the museum’s new home, with a winner expected to be announced next month.

Rem Koolhaas’s practice OMA is developing plans for a residential development around the building, now renamed the Parabola.

The deadline for applications to create the installation is 19 March. A designer is set to be appointed to begin on 30 June, with the contract scheduled to run until 20 December 2013.
