Design Symposium North programme unveiled

Design Symposium North in Liverpool has announced its programme, with speakers to include designer Adrian Shaughnessy and Moving Brands founder James Bull.

The announcement follows a rebrand and expansion of the event, which was formerly known as the Liverpool Design Forum and which will now have both a Liverpool and Manchester element, held six months apart, to create a North West regional focus.

Keynote speaker Bull will talk about his consultancy’s method of branding through multimedia ‘corporate storytelling’ across different platforms.

Shaughnessy will offer a retrospective on his career as creative director of Intro, as well as his experience as a design writer, consultant and broadcaster. He will discuss recent projects which may include his Unit Editions publishing venture.

D&AD is to hold student-focused sessions offering advice on employability in the current economic climate. Portfolio workshops and surgeries will also be offered.

The Design Business Association will give advice on ‘How to Punch Above Your Weight,’ in a session by Jonathan Kirk, former new business director at EHS Brann and Fitch. Kirk will look to challenge industry assumptions and offer ‘exclusive insight led advice’.

The event has been conceived by Liverpool-based consultancies Uniform, Smiling Wolf and Black and Ginger, and takes place on 25 November at LJMU Art and Design Academy, Duckinfield Street, Liverpool.
