Designers sought for Olympic kiosks

An international design competition is under way to design kiosks for Stratford, east London, which will be used for and after the Olympic and Paralympic Games as venues for information and orientation.

The Architecture Foundation is holding the tender on behalf of the London Borough of Newham and Design for London. The competition is open to architects, designers, artists, product designers and professionals from other disciplines.

Entrants are encouraged to ‘suggest flexible and innovative yet reliable designs’ for the permanent structures, says The Architecture Foundation.

A panel of judges includes London Development Agency head of design for legacy for London and Lower Lee Valley Eleanor Fawcett, Sarah Wigglesworth of Wigglesworth Architects and Sarah Ichioka, director of The Architecture Foundation. Entries will be judged anonymously and the winner announced in October.

Philip Singleton, divisional director of major sites for the London Borough of Newham, says, ‘In response to this brief we are looking for exceptional, flexible and creative designs which respond to the planned redevelopment of Meridian Square and the regeneration of the broader area.’

The deadline for entries is 3 September. To apply, visit http://www.architecturefoundation.org.uk/programme/2010/stratford-kiosks.
