Designer/scientist speed-dating results to go on show
The Science Museum’s Dana Centre hosts a two-day exhibition starting tomorrow, showing the results of a ‘speed-dating’ event that science organisation Nobelini organised last spring. The event matched 30 scientists with 30 designers.
Blind Data will display the winning three resulting design prototypes from the experiment, voted for by a panel of judges including Ideo interdisciplinary project leader Jennifer Leonard.
Feel Out Loud! by designer Céline Marcq and scientist Ev Yemini will capture visitors’ moods from facial expressions.
The Good, the Bad and the Negative by designer Berit Greinke and scientist Jay Stone will celebrate accidental laboratory discoveries.
Designer Elaine Ng and scientist Ioannis Spyridon Gousias’s Albert in NeuroPlastic Land will explore the health benefits of playing games.
The private view tomorrow will see Nobel Prize-winner Tim Hunt welcome guests to the exhibition, following which the three scientist-designer teams will present their work.
On Thursday, designer Carole Collett and scientist Steve Nurrish will launch the first in a series of ‘seed-dating’ events that will introduce scientists to other professionals from a range of disciplines. Participants in the event will be invited to devise – or ‘seed’ – ideas, before voting for their favourites.
