The website has been directed by Pentagram and designed by an internal team at UAL led by head of digital Katie Christie.
The design process has involved workshops with teams from each College, including academics specialising in different design disciplines, and testing with a range of user groups.
Before the redesign there were six individual college websites as well as a central University site.
The site has been designed ‘so that it is not just mobile responsive but mobile first,’ according to UAL.
London College of Communication, Central St Martins, London College of Fashion, Camberwell College of Art, Chelsea College of Art and Design and Wimbledon College of Art have all been given their own section of the site.
Christie says, although there is ‘some colour definition’ each section dovetails with the new UAL look.
UAL says that the LCF area ‘aims for a tone of “intelligent fashion” – minimalist, classic, elegant.’
Different typefaceces are used across the college sections. The LCF section is image heavy, ‘with classic typefaces, generous white space with thin key lines to separate it and a palette of colours used sparingly,’ according to UAL.
London College of Communication, described by UAL as ‘a vibrant, gritty, vocationally-led College’ has been expressed through a text and image-led design, in predominantly black and white with bright highlight colours, and a typeface that references its journalism specialism.
