Drinkall Dean and Tim Hatley design Diaghilev V&A show

Drinkall Dean and production designer Tim Hatley are designing the upcoming exhibition Diaghilev and the Golden Age of the Ballets Russes, 1909-1929, for London’s Victoria & Albert Museum.

The V&A appointed the consultancy eight months ago after it presented a paid creative pitch against what the consultancy says was about four groups. Drinkall Dean presented with Hatley, who designed sets and costumes for the stage shows Spamalot and Shrek/ The Musical.

The Sergei Diaghilev exhibition (1924 production of Le Train Bleu pictured) will feature back-cloths from ballets including Firebird, and audiovisual and lighting effects that will attempt ’to communicate the power of what people were hearing at the time in these revolutionary ballets’, says Drinkall Dean partner Paul Dean.

Diaghilev and the Golden Age of the Ballets Russes runs from 25 September 2010 to 9 January 2011 at the V&A, South Kensington, London SW7.
