El Nino creates North Road restaurant

El Nino Design has designed restaurant North Road, the new enterprise of Danish chef Christoffer Hruskova, mixing mid-century furniture with modern pieces.

El Nino was appointed in January having been invited to pitch against one other consultancy.

The restaurant opens today in the space previously occupied by The Clerkenwell Dining Room. Oak parquet floors have been laid and bronze fittings integrated alongside the furniture, which designer Laurence Nino says makes for a ‘timeless and inviting’ atmosphere.

Bespoke smoked-oak Danish dining chairs by JL Moller, Cherner bar stools, aged bronze and brass wall lights and Serge Mouille hanging lights have all been sourced.

The look is ‘Danish-inspired but not typical of that white spartan look. It’s sophisticated and elegant – reflecting the food in a smart and luxurious way,’ says Nino.

Two adjoining rooms make up the dining area, and an upper level which overlooks the whole restaurant is set to be developed into a lounge area. A windowed kitchen is overlooked by diners sat at the white carrara marble bar, and there are also sightlines to the custom-made 500-year-old-oak chef’s table.
