Electrolux launches ‘intelligent mobility’ design challenge

The Electrolux Design Lab 2011 competition is inviting industrial design students and recent industrial design graduates to submit ideas that consider intelligent mobility within home appliances.

This is the ninth edition of the annual Electrolux Design Challenge. The first prize is a six-month paid internship at Electrolux and cash prizes are also on offer.

The deadline for entries is 1 May and entries can be submitted at the Electrolux Design Lab website at www.electrolux.com/designlab. The winner will be selected at the Design Lab final, to be held in the autumn.

The competition brief states, ‘In particular, we seek a design concept that will offer personalisation and inspires users while utilising existing technology to offer support and guidance.’ Electrolux is also seeking designs that are sensitive to the environment and provide intuitive ease of use and aesthetic appeal.

Henrik Otto, senior vice-president of global design at Electrolux, says, ‘The challenge is not just about making appliances that are physically more portable, rather it is about providing flexible control to liberate time and support creative expression.’
