Gecko employees will now work on projects including Google Glass and the Google self-drive car.
Mechanical design specialist Gecko has previously worked on projects including FitBit, alongside New Deal Design, and HP products including computer towers and monitors.
The company also worked on the Fuseproject One Laptop Per Child project, to create a low-cost computer for the developing world.
The consultancy will now become part of Google’s research lab Google X. The lab is working on projects including Google Glass and the Google car.
Gecko founder Jacques L. Gagne says, ‘We are very excited and honoured to join Google X and work on a variety of cutting-edge projects.’
Gagne told the Wall Street Journal, ‘We’re a piece that Google X doesn’t necessarily have. People come to Gecko because they don’t know how to turn ideas into real products, especially when it’s something that hasn’t been done before.’
